The blog provides community for discussing the Workshop on the Impact of Pen-based Technology on Education (WIPTE). As well, we can discuss items of interest relatd to TabletPCs, the value-add of pen-based technology to the learning, and issues related to assessment of learning and pen-bsed technology.

I agree with Dan if by the future we mean the next 5-10 years. Certain markets like state and smaller local governments, non-portable employee industries (insurance and call center types) will continue to use low cost desktops due to financial accountability. As population increases and the efficacy of infrastructure challenges worker hiring and retention and bandwidth issues shake-out, this could change but that appears fairly distant in the future.
I've replaced mine - flexibility in teaching and work in general is the advantage of the tablet over the desktop and traditional laptop. Its done everything I've needed.
